Financial Controller

On behalf of our client, a part of an international chain of branded hotels, we are looking for an experienced Financial Controller with extensive hotel and residence experience, to lead the financial services and drive the improvement of the financial and operational performance of the hotel.

You will be expected to:

Implement and manage financial strategies and services which meet or exceed the needs of hotel owners, guests and employees;

Report to the General Manager based locally and Global VP of Finance;

Take an active role in the expansion and pre-opening state of the new extension to the hotel:

·  Implement and monitor internal controls of purchasing procedures, assist in review of contracts, proposals, quotations and legal documents;

·  Assist with securing and renewing adequate insurance and licenses with the appropriate regulatory agencies;

·  Ensure that the Finance team is adequately staffed and structured and all employees are adequately trained, request and manage recruitment of new employees if needed;

·  Responsibility for the Pre0Opening Budget, with regular monthly assessments, reports and reforecasts if needed;

Responsibility for the Financial Operations:

·  Analyse current and past trends in key performance indicators including all areas of revenue, cost of sales, expenses and capital expenditures;

·  Monitor performance indicators, highlighting trends and analysing causes of unexpected variance;

·  Oversee and manage the continued development of Budgeting, Financial Forecasting, Operating Plan and Modeling tools;

·  Ad-Hoc Reporting and Analysis;

·  Input to Quarterly and Monthly Financial reports;

·  Analyse complex financial information and reports to provide accurate and timely financial recommendations to management for decision making purposes;

·  Prepare presentations to Board of Directors and Senior Management Team;

·  Undertake other such duties as appropriate with the level and nature of the role.

·  Build and manage a team of professional employees, take and active interest in their training and development, their compliance with internal code of conduct; maintain professional relationships with the owners, vendors and third parties;


In order to succeed, you fulfill the following criteria:

Accounting Degree & preferably CPA or equivalent;

3+ years experience in a financial role in an international branded hotel;

10 – 15 years overall working experience with adequate professional maturity;

Working experience in Montenegro;

Familiar with Montenegrin tax system including VAT;

Hotel/resort experience with a good understanding of hotel finance and accounting, preferably both pre and post opening; 

Ability to think creatively, highly-driven and self-motivated;

Demonstrated ability to roll-up sleeves and work with team members in a hands-on management capacity;

Montenegro-based candidates preferred; regional applicants willing to relocate to Montenegro will be considered;

Fluency in both English and Montenegrin / Serbian / Croatian.
